Maxfactor False Lash Effect Mascara

Maxfactor false lash effect

I'll apologise in advance for the moany post.

I've been using this mascara for a couple of months now and decided it's finally time to share my feelings on it. This won't be a super lengthily post because I mean how much can you really say about a mascara?

I don't like it! There, I've said it, it's out of the way and now I can tell you why. It's called false lash effect and to be honest if I paid for lashes like this gives me I would be taking them back and demanding a refund, it is a pretty thin formula and takes sooooo many coats to build it up so I often don't even have enough time in the morning to apply enough to give me the volume I would like. My other complaint is that it doesn't seem to give me any length to my lashes either so I just feel like calling it false lash effect is all a lie.

The two things you really want from a mascara are volume and length and I feel that this one provides neither. My last issues with this product are the packaging, I hate the bulbous lid that is really smooth plastic so when I'm putting the wand up to my lashes I feel incredibly unsteady like it's going to shoot out of my hand either onto my face or the floor, or in fact the dogs fluffy tail which has actually happened! The last thing you really want to feel whilst applying mascara is anxiety over dropping the wand maxfactor, a rubberized lid would have solved that problem. The wand bugs me because it doesn't have a tapered end so it's really difficult to apply to the inner and outer corner lashes without getting it all over your eyelid.

So there you go, the long and short of it is I simply wouldn't buy this again!

Best Urban Decay Neutral Eyeshadows

For everyday wear I'm a huge sucker for a pretty shimmery neutral. They are easy to wear, great for people who don't have much confidence with bright colours and excellent for applying in a hurry because they require little to no blending for a super easy look.

So I have done a round up of my favourite neutrals from Urban Decay, because we all know I love a bit or UD.

Urban Decay Neutrals, top neutral eyeshadows

This shade is beautiful to use as a highlighter but it makes a great base colour as well for a light, bright and ever so pretty. I wear this one often, and use just a tiny amount of a taupe shade to define the crease. (Virgin is a very light shimmer shadow.)

Urban Decay Virgin

Now I know I've harped on about this one before, but really it's my go to colour and I get through it likes it's going out of fashion, my favourite duet is sin and smog. What a match made in heaven. (Sin is a shimmery mink shadow.)

Urban Decay Sin

A gorgeous neutral with a just a little hint of a mauve undertone, I adore this one, it creates such an effortless no make-up make-up look because of all its matte glory. (Laced is a very pale mauve matte shadow.)

Urban Decay Laced

This is the prettiest matte taupe, it gives just a hint of make-up and is fabulous for creating a subtle amount of eye definition. (Naked is a matte taupe shadow)

Twinings Spicy Chai

Twinings spicy chai, chai tea

The weather is most definitely cooler now, so when the evenings are dark and it's a little chilly at home there is nothing better than a comforting hot drink to snuggle up with to watch your favourite TV show. I love the taste of chai, I really enjoy the soft heat of the spices and the smell that makes me think of Christmas. I picked up a pack of Twinings spicy chai teabags and have been taking a couple to work with me because they come individually wrapped but I wanted to try making a cup of chai latte with them. I wasn't sure how it would turn out as they aren't that strong when made with water, even when left to brew for 4 minutes so I guessed it would need a little help with some extra ingredients.

Twinings Spicy Chai

I heated some soy milk up in the microwave whilst I brewed the teabag in quarter a cup of water and then topped it up with soy milk. I added in an extra dash of cinnamon and ground ginger to enhance the flavour a bit more.

Chai Tea Latte

I would have liked it to have more flavour so I think I'm going to try making my own chai latte syrup to add to hot milk to keep me going through the winter, but if you're too low maintainance to do that then brewing the hell out of a chai teabag and adding to hot milk should do the trick.

Low Fat Homemade Houmous

I am a total houmous addict, I slather it on everything and will eat it with anything! Some houmous makes me a happy girl until I think about the amount of fat in the smallest serving. I eat mostly vegan and try to be pretty healthy most of the time and keep my fat intake to a minimum so the last few weeks I've been wiz zing up my own homemade houmous without the use of oil and it's been pretty darn good and so easy.

Here are two copy cat recipes I've whipped up to imitate my favourite store bought houmous without the added fat.

Roasted Red pepper

One tin of chickpeas
3 cloves of garlic
2 teaspoons of lemon or lime juice
2 red bell peppers
1 dessert spoon tahini

Start by chopping your red peppers into big chunks and putting them in a roasting dish along with 3 unpeeled cloves of garlic. Roast at about 180 c for 20-20-30 min until the pepper just starts to char. Remove from oven and leave to cool completely. Peel garlic when cooled.

Then in a blender pop all of the ingredients along with a little bit of water, pulse a few times and have a look to gauge how much more water you'll need to get desired consistency. I added a little at a time until I was happy with it, I also added a sprinkling of salt. You can add more or less of the above ingredients to suit your taste, I love roasted garlic so I actually used 4 cloves, but for those of you not attempting to keep all the vampires away can stick with 3.

Beetroot and mint

Now this one is pretty special, I often buy this from the tesco healthy living range but it's honestly so quick and easy to make yourself and has no added oil and is really low in fat because it's made with haricot beans instead of chickpeas which are lower in fat and calories!

1 tin of haricot beans

Stationery Haul from Paperchase and Wilko

I love pretty note pads, paper and anything stationery based. I'm a complete sucker for this sort of thing, but more recently I have come to an understanding that if I actually put these things to good use they would be able to help me; a naturally disorganised person to become a more organised person and would be able to help me keep my life in check.

I have discovered that I need to micro manage everything or else I just let things slip and won't get them done. So with that being said I took a little trip to Wilko and Paperchase to buy some things, this is just scratching the surface of my wish list but I don't have a never ending piggy bank to fund my habit!

Wilko haul

I picked up the cute little sticky notes on offer from Wilko for £1.25, I think they are adorable and can't wait to start using them. The beautiful A5 clipboard and pad is from Paperchase for £6, I think it's really pretty and will be really handy for writing my to do lists because it has the little tick boxes down the side for marking things off when they are done to keep me motivated! It also has a magnet on the back so you can keep it on your fridge for writing down your shopping lists!

This gorgeous weekly desk planner is something I am in love with, purple is my favourite colour so this is perfect for me. I need all the help I can get when it comes to being organised and this is going to be great for jotting down things I need to do in the week and writing down little notes when I'm surfing the net. I'm a massive sucker for pretty colour pens too and I thought that keeping things looking as cute as possible will make planning more fun.

Not as exciting as the rest of the stuff but I got 2 little zip up folders because I am hoping that I will be stocking up on lots of stickers to go in a planner I am yet to choose. They were so cheap at only 30p for the little one and 50p for the larger folder from Wilko. I want to take some steps towards getting everything in check and if spending a little money and investing in some planning materials will help me then I am all aboard. I am super excited to hop on the planner bandwagon for 2016 as well and have been researching the best ones available so if you have any suggestions please leave them in the comments below.

Happy planning everyone!

Wake me up vs Lasting Perfection

rimmel wake me up, collection lasting perfection

This is just a little comparison review of the 2 most popular drug store concealers.  I've tried both now and have a clear favourite by far so thought I'd share that with you.

Lasting Perfection

This was the first one I tried and used it right to the end of the tube and was really impressed with it. Firstly the colour match was something I was really happy with, I have very fair skin but with yellow undertones so I have always found that cheaper brands don't cater for that very well and make their fair products too pink for me. I got the concealer in fair 1 and it was a perfect match for me which was impressive. The consistency is lovely, it's not too creamy so doesn't cake but it's not too watery either so it does provide really good coverage. I love that it's more of a liquid formula and comes in a tube with a doe foot applicator, this is much more convenient than a stick concealer.
I find this product wears really well, I very rarely have to reapply throughout the day because once set with powder it stays in place all day. This is a great all round concealer and works well for blemishes as well as for under the eyes and isn't too heavy for the delicate skin. You can see from the photo below how loved the lasting perfection concealer was, all the writing has worn off!

Wake me up

I watched a youtube video where it was mentioned that this one is the better of the two so when I was in the market for a new concealer I thought I would give this one a go. I have to say I don't agree, after using this one for a couple of weeks I am not at all impressed with this rimmel product. This product is named wake me up because it is supposed to be a brightening concealer, I honestly can't say I have noticed any brightening effect at all, but after blending with my finger I did notice the little shimmer particles on my finger tip when it's been heavily concentrated but I don't notice it on my face. I bought this product in ivory and the colour seemed to match well, however when this product oxidises it goes quite a bit darker which is really annoying because it then shows up on my face as dark blotches drawing attention to the blemishes rather than hiding them. I also found this concealer doesn't cover very well, I have to apply so much product to try and cover redness and it still doesn't work very well and it doesn't last very long either, even after being set with powder. I have to reapply this throughout the day without fail!
This product seems to be a tiny bit more water based than the collection one which isn't beneficial for coverage.

Rimmel wake me up

Application wise both products come in similar tubes with doe foot applicators so they are pretty much on par there but my preference is definitely the collection concealer and will be buying another one asap and the rimmel one will probably be spending the rest of its days festering at the bottom of a drawer!

Have you tried both? Which one do you prefer?
