$50,000 per week to look good?

I read an article suggesting that Rihanna reportedly spends around $50,000 a week to look as good as she does. Most of the time you need to take things like this with a pinch of salt, because to me that much money on your beauty regime seems extortionate regardless of who you are and you have to ask does she really look that much better than someone who is spending far less?

This is how her weekly breakdown apparently looks:

$2500 per day to take her hair stylist with her everywhere
$11000 for her natural unprocessed hair extensions
$1300 for the 4 tubs of creme de la mer cream she uses on her entire body
$800 per day for someone to travel with her and spray tan on a daily basis

She is also reportedly paying to have a dermatologist on hand to give her oxygen facials and do laser skin tightening treatments, as well as a make-up artist and eyelash technician to keep her looking stunning at all times.

I'm not sure anyone would be crazy enough to be using a facial cream that costs around $325 per tiny tub to moisturise their whole body surely, and wouldn't you be using more than four tubs per week if you were using it on your entire body?

Rihanna is a beautiful girl, she can't really need to spend that obscene amount to keep herself looking polished, and if she is then what hope do the rest of us mere mortals have?

What do you think, is she really rinsing those dollar bills to look this hot, or is it all a load of rubbish?

Sunday Brunch

Sundays are for snoozing in bed long after your alarm would have normally gone off, opening one eye to take a quick peek that it's morning then closing them again without a care in the world. Sundays are for sitting in bed drinking coffee, and best of all Sundays are for BRUNCH!

When you have sat all snuggly in your bed for as long as you can bare before your stomach thinks your throats been cut and you have to get something to eat, then and only then do you venture out of your bed shaped kingdom and cook something tasty and good for your soul.

brunch ideas, bacon and waffles

I like quick and easy ideas for brunch to allow for maximum relaxing time and minimal time in front of the stove. Baked eggs, waffles and bacon are quick and easy with hardly any mess to clear up afterwards, score!

Baked eggs come in lots of forms and you can add almost anything you like, this one is very simple. I mixed together a couple of spoons of chopped tinned tomatoes with some smoked paprika, a little dash of chili powder and some basil, I used some oil spray to grease a little ramekin and then put the tomato mix in the bottom and cracked an egg on top. The potato waffles take 15 mins in the oven and after about 8 I put the egg into the oven as well to bake and cooked the bacon in a pan. Couldn't be easier, add a sprinkle of parmesan on the egg if you wish and a splash of maple syrup on the bacon and waffles and voila, brunch is served.

Healthy Eating Update

I have been trying to get myself back on track eating wise for a few weeks now, for the most part I am doing pretty well. I am snacking far less than I was and I have also noticed it takes less food for me to feel full which is always a bonus. I am once again learning that feeling a little bit of hunger isn't the end of the world and I don't need to eat whatever I lay my hands on in order to make it go away.

I am trying to eat mindfully as much as I can, I feel this is a wonderful way of really learning to listen to your body and respond to what it needs. It takes a lot of practise to be able to tune into your body and take notice, especially if you are used to mindlessly wolfing food down like it's your last meal ever!

If you have never heard of mindful eating, it's really worth reading up on it. In a nutshell it's about taking the time to listen to your body and eat what you really truly fancy, that doesn't mean reach for that double cream cake followed by another one. If you take the time to think deeply about what you want to eat it will probably surprise you, and once you have some food in front of you make sure you sit down and give it your full attention. Eat slowly, pausing and putting your cutlery down between mouthfuls and enjoy every bite, engage your brain and think about the texture and taste of the food and chew it properly. In essence it's about teaching yourself to really enjoy your food and totally immerse yourself in the moment. If you give it your undivided attention and think about every mouthful then the chances are you will feel satisfied sooner, as well as giving your brain the time to send those all important signals that you are full.

I know this can all sound a little far fetched, but if you can be open minded and take on board the simple ideas behind it then you will notice the difference. The technique is teaching you to be more in tune with your body and listen to it's needs rather than letting yourself be seduced into thinking you want something you don't. Are you really hungry? If not then don't eat, wait until you are.

The type of things I have been having a lot of recently are smoothies, salad and lots of grains. I'm trying to pick foods to give me nourishment as well as enjoyment.

healthy salad, avocado salad
avocado salad
I love salad anyway so it's no big deal for me to eat it a lot. I don't feel like it's diet food, I make it filling and satisfying by adding avocado and grains like cous cous or quinoa.

black forest smoothie, fruit smoothie
Having a smoothie in the morning made with low fat creme fraiche, fruit and coconut rice milk keeps me full up until lunch. This one is a black forest smoothie made with frozen berries and some chocolate protein powder. Very tasty indeed!

Cheap and Cheerful Round up

Sometimes the cheaper everyday products don't get enough glory on beauty blogs, things that we spend hardly anything on but we use everyday. I decided I would give a couple of the cheaper (maybe a little less exciting) products their time in the limelight.

They may have only cost me a few pounds collectively but they do make me smile so I wanted to share them with you.

I was in Boots with the intention of buying the boyf a new shower gel when I passed by the original source products on special for £1 each, I picked up a manly fragrance for him but spotted one that had my name all over it! Their new seasonal addition fragrance of Raspberry and Cocoa, I took one sniff and was like "woah I have to have this!" It smells amazing! It's like washing with black forest gateaux only with less cherries (and cake). On the first sniff the fruity note of raspberry hits you followed by the deep comforting smell of chocolate, heaven in a bottle!

Garnier Ultimate blends, original source raspberry and cocoa, carex cola bottles

The next item that makes me smile is a hand soap that has been around for a few months now, it's the sweet shop range by Carex. I picked up the cola bottle fragrance and love it so much, every time I wash my hands it smells like I've been caught with my mitts in the sweetie jar at the local newsagent. The smell really takes me back to childhood, as cola bottles were something that always put a smile on my face.

Lastly is the new range of shampoo and conditioner out from Garnier. I got myself their avocado oil and shea butter ones as they are for dry hair, and they smell absolutely amazing. They leave so much fragrance on my hair I walk around swishing it just in order to get a nose full of the delicious scent, even my hairdresser told me my hair smelt nice! The products also leave my hair feeling nice and soft and enable me to get a comb through my ratty locks with ease.

So there you go, my little round up of products that were cheap and most definitely cheerful. Beauty doesn't have to cost the earth.

Essie Summer Collection 2014 Mini's

Essie summer collection 2014

I have been eyeing up the Essie mini summer collection since they came out and have kept putting off buying them because I spend too much already. I finally got them because my heart flutters every time I saw them and I knew they would be gone for ever really soon as summer comes to an end. I would kick myself if I let them pass me by.

Essie summer collection 2014

They are awesome bright colours that evoke happy thoughts and they have the most adorable names, "ruffles and feathers" is a teal shade, "haute in the heart" is a deep fuchsia pink, and "roarrrrrrrange" is the burnt orange. I'm a complete sucker for their teeny little bottles, they are so cute.

I used the beautiful hot pink as a base and used the other 2 colours to accent the nails. If you are interested in seeing the other colours up close let me know and I'll feature them in a post of their own.

Glitter Accent Nail

My nails started off as simple and plain, I did a few coats of Essie sugar daddy polish because I love it and was in a rush and it's a master at hiding imperfections if I was to smudge it in my hastiness for it to dry. I however wanted to glitz it up a little without going overboard so I just decided to add a little chunky glitter to the cuticle area of my ring fingers and I love it and think it looks really cute.

A fresh coat of polish, some glitter and a dotting tool is all that's required, super easy to achive and it looks so darn pretty.

My Next Blogging Milestone

This blog is not my first, but it is my favourite! I have settled into a rhythm with this one and enjoy writing about a few different subjects that interest me and this is such a creative outlet where I get excited at the thought of all the things I want to write about or take photo's of. Blogging has become such a passionate hobby and I have really started to immerse myself into the blogging community as well, I take part in a lot of blogger chats and really enjoy chatting to other bloggers about our hobby.

It's such a great feeling to know that if I'm alone at home, that there are lots of you lovely people to turn to and have a chat with about one of our favourite topics! I love my blog for many reasons,  but one of the biggest is the extra confidence boost it has given me, I have come a long way this past year, I battled with putting up the first photo of myself on this little blog because self confidence was such an issue for me and I sat there for hours scrutinising the photo's trying to pick one I felt happy enough with to put up for the world to see. I eventually did it, and nothing happened, but I was just elated that nobody posted any mean comments, to me that was a success!

Since then I have posted lots of pictures and some of them have received the sweetest comments and this has helped me more than you could realise, my confidence has grown and I am lot more at peace with myself.

MAC creme cup

I am eternally thankful for blogging being my hobby, but more so I am thankful for all of you wonderful people who read what I have to say and take the time to comment, and on that note I have a little thank-you gift for one of you that I will give away when I reach 100 bloglovin followers. One of my fabulous followers will be drawn at random to receive a MAC creme cup lipstick! (the brand new one obviously, not the one I wrote on the table with haha)

All you have to do is be one of my wonderful followers to be in with a chance.

Thank you to each and every one of you who takes the time to read my posts, you really do make me very happy.

Fuss Free Healthy Snack

If you read my blog regularly, then you will know I have been trying to turn my bad eating habits around. For a year I was really good, eating lots of healthy fresh foods and keeping junk to a minimum, I was also trying to eat more mindfully so I would stop when I was full and only eat when I was hungry. I did really well and my weight stabilised and I felt good and had energy to bounce out of bed early every morning. Unfortunately I hit a wall earlier this year after Easter because we had way too much chocolate in the house and I was on a slippery slope that I couldn't get out of. I was making all the wrong food choices, eating junk and way too much of it.

I couldn't seem to snap myself out of it, I would stuff my face with so much rubbish and seem to develop this thirst for salty and sugary snacks to would just keep eating and eating, and when I didn't satisfy the feeling I would continue. When I reached this point I knew it was going to be really hard to try and turn it around.

It's happening slowly, I had to go cold turkey for a few days and be super strict on myself to try and break the cycle, now I just need to work hard on making healthy eating my habit rather than junk.

So I have been swapping bad snacks for things like celery and low fat dip, I love salad and vegetables so I just need to keep lots in the house then I won't find it so hard to be healthy and make the right choices.

Here's one of my fave snacks, Tesco beetroot, canellini bean and mint houmous with celery. The dip is so tasty and only 83 calories per 1/4 of the tub.

Doesn't that look so much better than a packet of crisps? I have had a couple of slip ups in the last week, so if you are reading this boyfriend, healthy food can be romantic too. I need your support to help me stay on track.

Garnier Micellar Water

micellar cleansing water

I'm sorry Micellar water, I'm just not your biggest fan!

I bought this cleansing water a few weeks ago to try as I figured it would be gentle on my temperamental skin and would be a quick and fuss free way of taking my make-up off at night when I'm feeling too lazy to cleanse properly (which is most of the time!)

micellar cleansing water

I have to be completely honest about this stuff and say I really don't care either way, it sparks no real emotion towards love or hate for me. Yes it takes my make-up off so it does what it says on the tin, but I find that the next morning when I wake up my skin is incredibly oily and shiny and that doesn't happen when I use a cleanser.

Garnier Micellar water

Other than the fact that it cleans my make-up off I don't notice any other benefits to this product, it doesn't make any difference in the texture or feel of my skin (other than making it more shiny which admittedly isn't a great quality), so I have to question, what's the point in using it?

I will use up the rest of the bottle seeing as I have it, but I won't be purchasing it again. Sorry Garnier!

How have you got on with this product?

Soap & Glory Products

I am a massive fan of soap and glory, I have blogged about their products on many occasions because I love them so much. They are wonderful and have modest price tags, and I really do welcome their products as gifts as well, so the fact their Christmas gift selection is always eagerly anticipated and gorgeous is no surprise.

It's also pretty darn handy that they are frequently on 3 for 2 offers in Boots. I think their body wash is fab, and it lasts for ages. The 3 for 2 is currently on in Boots so I have picked up 3 of their different fragrances and that should keep me going for absolutely ages.

soap and glory

I adore the original fragrance,  but I fell head over heels in love with the fragrance rich and foamous which can only be described as warm cookies, I already have it as a body lotion so being able to wash with it as well is going to be great.

My collection of these little beauties continues to grow and they make my heart happy! Which one is you favourite?

Autumn/Winter 2014 Trends

Summer has sadly slipped away a little early this year as we have been rained upon for the last few weeks and the weather has been less than desirable. I think it's safe to say that Autumn is already pretty much here for us Brits, so with that in mind shall we have a look at the trends that lay before us for the upcoming months?

Thankfully jumpers will be big this Autumn, this is good news for when the weather gets a little chilly and we want to wrap up warm and cosy. Now jumpers come in all shapes and sizes but this year oversized knitwear will be the most popular. I have a soft spot for jumper dresses so this trend is right up my street.

This awesome jumper dress is from River Island and looks incredibly cosy doesn't it?

Pencil Skirts

Pencil skirts will be everywhere this season, they are a nod to sixties fashion which is also a key trend. They are a brilliant way to accentuate femininity, especially for the move curvy girl. If you have a small waist yet shapely hips, thighs and bum then this is a killer outfit for you that will have the boys drooling. It makes the absolute most to all the feminine traits, to keep it looking up to date try wearing with a cropped jumper.

Sixties fashion trends are making a massive come back this year, so can really get your Twiggy on and embrace the era of the mods and rockers. Monochrome, tartans and check are all huge as are bold patterns and colours, have fun with it.

Click on the photo's if you like the item and it will take you to the page you can purchase it from. What items are you looking forward to wearing this Autumn/Winter?

Blogging Problems

Do you ever feel so totally overwhelmed by the endless ideas you have for your blog and all the wonderful things you would like to create? I have always had a huge imagination and been a total day dreamer, in fact life has always been far better in my head than in reality. As a child I dreamt of amazing stories and far away lands filled with mystical creatures. Now I am an adult I still dream most of the time, these days it's less about strange beings and more about things that could possibly be true in some alternate universe.

I dream big and sometimes I have so many ideas that my head could bust into a million tiny pieces, my biggest problem isn't the dreaming, it's the doing! I have real trouble implementing these dreams and ideas and making them reality. Not all of them are out of reach and totally hair brained, but I struggle to organise myself and make things happen. I wish this wasn't the case, I wish I could be braver, more of a risk taker, a do-er. I would love to be able to throw caution to the wind and take an idea and make it happen and create something sensational! But something always has to get in the way doesn't it?

Dreams, dreams come true

How can I make that less of the case? In this world filled with opportunities and excitement, how do I take something from dream to reality if I don't have the courage or skill set to do so? How can I enable myself to push the boundaries, go out and make it happen regardless of what everyone else thinks? Like following the yellow brick road, will I find someone at the emerald city to give me more courage to chase the rainbow?

I have so many big ideas for this here little blog and I would love to be able to create them so you could see what is inside my head.

Maybe one day, maybe soon I will be able to. Do you dream big, or do you make it happen?

Befriend A Blogger Campaign

befriend a blogger, #befriendablogger

I take part in loads of blogger twitter chats, and one of the most frequently said things is "I would like to make more blogger friends" I feel this way as well because it's our hobby and we have a common interest. I don't really know any other bloggers in real life, so only get to interact a little with other bloggers via the virtual world.

So I decided, wouldn't it be nice to create a little event to try and encourage bloggers to really get to know one another and hopefully make a new friend(s).

1) Please only sign up if you truly intend to take part
2) Be kind, this is not the time for bitchiness
3) Your aim is to learn as much about your blogger team mates as possible
4) Once you have spent some time getting to know your new blogger friends feature them in a post to tell us all about your new found friendship!
5) If you do decide to meet up with a fellow blogger, make sure it is in a public place for safety. Whilst we all like to think the best of people we can never be sure who someone is via social media so be careful.

So want to know how to get involved?

Send an email to michellelouiselove@gmail.com with the title "befriend a blogger" include your name, blog address, blog genre, your age, area and country you live in.

I will then put you into a set of 2 pairs, so each blogger will have the chance to get to know someone near and far. I hope this will make things more exciting as you can learn about a blogger from the opposite end of the country, possibly even another country as well as someone a little closer to you, so should you wish to meet up that could be a possibility as well. I will do my best to team you with bloggers of a similar age as well as similar blogging genre's so you will have plenty to talk about.

Once your pairings have been sent to you, you will have 6 weeks to get to know each other via email and social media as well as reading each others blogs. Then you will each write a blog post about your experience of getting to know the other bloggers and what you have discovered about them.
