Food With No Calories

Bit of a random odd post today, but hey I like to mix it up and keep you guys on your toes!

I was thinking as I stuffed a mini bagel in my mouth (which still has 160 calories might I add despite being so small) wouldn't it be cool if you could pick 5 foods that could be calorie free. You could pick your 5 top eats and be able to stuff your face with them as much as you like and they wouldn't count! I know, you're all thinking that would be the most amazing thing!!

SO I have sat and debated what I would put on such a list. It's really hard, I mean only 5 foods that you could eat guilt free when there is so much tastiness out there to be scoffed. I know you are thinking why would I take so much time to decide because it's not like it's going to happen, so what if you change your mind in five minutes. But I like to take these things seriously you know?

Here's my list:

1) my mums shepherds pie, this stuff is soooo fattening because it has so much calorific goodness. Creamy mash, cheese, baked beans, mince, carrots, peas and sweetcorn (all the sugar laden veggies). As a child I would stand watching this stuff cook through the oven door impatiently asking every couple of minutes "is it ready yet"

2) tiramisu, my ultimate favourite dessert. Creamy coffee goodness!

3) Burgers, any burger no matter what was in it as long as it was named a burger would count. Hand me the biggest cheesy, bacon-y, avocado-y burger with sauce dripping out YUM I did want to include fries in with this but then I thought that would be cheating because they are two different types of food and I can't cheat on my imaginary zero calorie rule!

4) Fries/chips whatever you like to call them whether they are skinny fries all crisp and crunchy or big old fat chip shop chips they would be on the list!

5) I wanted to cheat again here and put Indian takeaway so I could have as much of everything as I like, it was so hard to decide on just one more thing! I think I have settled on passanda, problem is I have no more free calories left for something to go with my curry, so I guess I will be eating curry on chips because I don't think it would really go with tiramisu!

Go on and indulge me in my little fantasy and tell me what would be on your list in the comments below!

Happy Eating

Nails Of The Day

NOTD, OPI, luck lucky lavender, pamploma purple

I go through phases with my nails, sometimes I can be bothered to paint them on a weekly basis so they are nice and chip free. Other times I am very lazy and don't bother with nail varnish because I know I will keep meaning to remove the polish when it chips and rush out the door forgetting and then want to spend the day sitting on my hands so no one notices how bad they look. (note to self, keep nail varnish remover in handbag).

Lets Be Honest Here

We all wish that some parts (most parts) of our life were better, we sometimes wish our lives were "perfect" like the girls who write the BIG blogs or film those fabulous YouTube videos or our favourite celeb. What is perfect anyway?

I think there should be a little more honesty in the blogging community, or if that isn't possible then ladies at least take a deep breath every now and then and admit to yourself that your favourite bloggers life isn't so perfect.

We all have a junk drawer (or 2) in our kitchen unless you have major OCD, we all argue with our spouse sometimes, we all wish that the frickin dust would stop gravitating towards the black TV!!

It's ok, and above all, it's NORMAL. The photo's we see on blogs are what we want the world to see, we choose the right place to take those pictures so we can portray "life is pretty" and you know you arranged and rearranged the candle a million times, and made sure there wasn't any dust and you took the photo from an angle that hides the pile of junk in the corner you have been meaning to tidy up for the last week.

In reality I have been off of work since Wednesday because I had an operation and my boyfriend had to leave Friday night to go away to Germany for a week for work and I miss him so much I have cried, most of my family don't live in the UK so I am home alone and more than a bit lonely. My good friends all live far away and there have been moments that I have thought who the hell would I turn to if I really needed someone right now? Perfect? Far from you see.

So stop beating yourself up about how imperfect your life is and accept that it's just the way things are. All the rubbish moments will make you appreciate the good ones so much more.

Feel free to share one good and one bad thing about your world in the comments below, we won't judge, promise!

I'll go first:

I have no food in the house, I'm hungry but don't feel up to going shopping.
In a couple of weeks I will have a new baby niece.

Forgotten Beauties | Famous Cosmetics

I have make-up stashed in various places, my most used and favourite items are in the drawers next to my bed and all other make-up is stashed in make-up cases that I hardly ever open. I often get stuck in such a rut and just keep using the same old colours and palettes and forget about all the lovely stuff I have stored away. So after delving through one of my cases I pulled out a little compact I haven't used in a long time. The high five eye shadow compact is a combination of 5 beautiful gold and bronze shades that look stunning on.

I made a little pact with myself that this has to stay out for a little while and I need to use these shades.

How many forgotten beauties have you got hiding away in your bedroom?

Are #bbloggers too fickle?

I read a lot of beauty blogs and always see new posts popping up on my twitter feed about the latest must have product. Which brings me to my point, are beauty bloggers too fickle when it comes to products? Do the majority of us keep changing up the things we use constantly in search of something better, or do bloggers feel they have to keep trying new things in order for them to have new content for their blog?

I tend to stick to the things I like, I always use peaches and clean to cleanse, oil of olay to moisturise, and St Ives to scrub. I am a creature of habit, and quite loyal to a brand when I find something I like and that works well with my fussy skin. Does that make me a bad beauty blogger? Should I always be changing everything up all the time and slapping on the next miracle product in order to have something new to review to keep the readers coming back? I have to keep wondering is this actually good for your skin to use so many different types of products?

Oil of olay, peaches and clean

Although I stay loyal to my basic skin care routine and have my favourite make-up products I do like to try out lots of new colours from the brands I love, but I tend to go with the mantra "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

I am the third generation of female in my family to be using oil of olay, (or ulay as it was when I was a child) I remember watching my nan applying the cream to her face whilst sitting in her armchair sipping on a cup of coffee, and then it started popping up in my mum's bathroom cabinet, so it was no wonder that it was my first choice when I got to the point where I knew I needed to be sensible and start using a moisturiser on a daily basis. I have used another couple of brands but I am very happy with my olay, its light enough that it doesn't leave me feeling greasy, but nourishing enough that my skin isn't too dry, it sinks in well and doesn't leave my skin red and irritated. I think I am on this bandwagon for some time and feel no real need to try something new. For this product I am not fickle!

Do you change up your products all the time? Or have you found your holy grail product that you are loyal to?

OPI | She's Golden

It's no secret that I adore OPI nail varnish and it's true I have lots of them and if left to my own devices in a shop that stocks them I always come home with many more.

Today I felt like a light summery shade, I like shades of white and cream for nails I just always find them a little hard to paint on streak free and try as I might I didn't quite achieve that with this shade either. But it looks pretty none the less. It would look even better on someone with dark or tanned skin as it would be the perfect contrast.

Urban Decay Smokey Eye

I don't often wear a smokey eye, there are two main reasons for this. 1) I am lazy and most of the time couldn't be bothered with the effort it takes to put on more make-up than I usually do, 2) I personally don't think it would be appropriate to wear it during the day time as it is a little heavy going on pale skin.

Having said that I do like the look, and I like the way it makes my green eyes pop so I shall attempt to do it a little more often (if I can be bothered).

Products used:

MAC studio fix fluid in NW13
Smashbox translucent power
NARS blusher in Orgasm
Urban Decay eyeshadows in:
Creep, Virgin, Darkhorse, Vice.

smokey eye, Michelle Louise Love

I started by buffing Darkhorse just above the crease, then pressed Creep all over my lid and used a fluffy brush to smudge the edges so it blends into Darkhorse. I also smudged the remainder of Creep that was on my brush on my lower lashline. I wanted to add a little warmth and colour to the look so pressed some Vice all over the top of my lids to give it a deep purple hue. Lastly I added a little bit of Virgin into the inner corners and brow bone to life the look and finished with liquid liner and mascara.

Voila!

Sorry for the picture quality of this post, I had to use my camera images so they aren't as good as I would have liked : (

That Dress | Too Revealing?

Rihanna see through dress, CDFA

So lets talk about that dress, the one that Rihanna wore at the beginning of June to the CDFA awards. Rihanna is known for her out there attention seeking style and it seems she loves nothing better than to shock the media and general public with her attire. But when it comes to this dress, there is a rather large divide between those who thought it was good and the ones who thought it was bad.

Rihanna CDFA, see through dress

Some people have stated that it was a beautiful show of feminism and she should be applauded for her bravery in wearing something that leaves very little to the imagination, whereas others have criticised Rihanna for not being a good role model and sending out a clear message that it's ok to walk about in a state of undress in public, and that it was all done to steal the lime light and benefit no one other than herself.

I am a fan of Rihanna, I enjoy her music, admire her sense of style even when she is at times shameless in her approach to what is deemed acceptable. I think she radiates self confidence and sends out the message that it is ok for women to be forthright about their sexuality rather than having to play the wall flower because it is more socially acceptable. She does at times make questionable choices in things she says and does, but at the end of the day she is only human and we all make mistakes, but the rest of us have the luxury of being able to do that behind closed doors away from the harsh words of the wolds media.

Rihanna see through dress, CDFA

Like it or not she is a mega star, known world wide and can't even blow her nose without everyone hearing about it. When you combine this with a person that adores attention and the ability to shock, it is only ever going to go one way, and shock is quite simply what she does, and undeniably she does it very well. She is shameless, young, wild and rich and lives her life through a lens and clearly enjoys doing so as she plays up to it often.

I personally liked the dress she donned, I thought she looked gorgeous in it and although you could see every inch of her flesh through the glistening of the crystals there was still a sense of elegance and glamour to the outfit, rather than it having a trashy feel that would have been more in keeping with the style of someone like Miley Cyrus. I applaud Rihanna for having the confidence and audacity to wear such a dress, if I had a body like hers then I'm sure I would want to show it off as well!

What are your thoughts on her outfit? Are you for or against?

Drug Store Favourites | Radox & L'Oreal

I will admit I am a bit of a make-up snob and tend to spend quite a lot of money on quality products, however for some reason it doesn't extend as far as hair and body care generally as most of that sort of thing I will buy from Boots or the supermarket and don't spend a fortune on.

I use make-up every day, and I always buy good quality foundation, powder, eye shadows etc. I think it's because I notice the difference in how the products wear and also because although you shell out for them in the first place they last a long time, so I feel as though I'm getting value for money. But if I was to pay out a lot for a bottle of conditioner, it would be gone within about 6 washes and I would just feel short changed. So until I am rich I think I will mostly stick with the more purse friendly brands for that sort of thing.

So here are two budget friendly items I am currently loving.

Radox soothe, Elvive full restore

Radox shower gel in vanilla and ginger scent. This bottle was on special in Boots and cost me 99p! It smells absolutely gorgeous and I am in love, so will be heading back to bulk buy it whilst it's still on offer. Now I could write all wonderful things about the ingredients and say how it makes my skin silky smooth, but to be honest it cleans me so I don't smell like a tramp and I love the fragrance.
Job Done!

Radox soothe shower gel

L'Oreal Elvive Full Restore conditioner. Now this stuff I really am going to get on my high horse about. I have long hair, that is naturally curly, dry by nature and then I go and bleach and straighten it to add insult to injury. Normally I just look for a conditioner that will at least enable me to get a comb through it when wet, and I have become used to the fact that I have to use an immense amount every time I wash my hair or else said comb does not go through hair when wet.

L'Oreal Elvive full restore conditioner

I bought this conditioner when it was on buy one get one free, (you see a pattern forming here, I can sometimes be a little bit cheap, or frugal as I like to say.) it was a chance buy because I had run out of conditioner and my hair really needed washing and I had just done a huge food shop so didn't want to add loads more to the bill with conditioner, and ah look at that, special offer, two for the price of one, yes please!

Then I used it for the first time and was super impressed, it has a really rich creamy consistency and as soon as even a smidgen touches my parched hair I can run my fingers through it without yanking and pulling tufts out! This pleases me a lot, I don't have to use even half as much as I normally would and I can feel it actually makes my hair smoother and softer, and a comb glides through it like a hot knife through butter, bonus!

The only thing I have discovered is that I need to keep it away from the roots of my hair, it's so rich that my fine hair can't take it that close to the scalp or else I end up looking like I haven't washed it at all the day after and it looks greasy and flat and does me no favours in trying to avoid looking like a tramp. With all other conditioners I slather it on at the roots as well and it makes no difference.

So if you are looking for a couple of little bargain beauties, then I would definitely recommend these. But even if you don't like them it's not like you have wasted a ton of money! That's what we like to hear!

p.s, it smells good too!

Summer Holiday | Part Four

This post will conclude my holiday series, which for me is a little sad as I have had a lot of fun writing them and re-living the moments. This was the best holiday I have ever been on, I had so much fun and laughed a lot every single day. That wasn't just down to the destination or the activities but more to do with who I was with. I will take this opportunity to tell the world how wonderful I think my boyfriend is and how he's my best friend, makes me smile and feel incredibly loved. Right, now that bit is over I shall get on with the matter in hand.

Day 4 of our holiday started with a relaxing boat ride from Puerto Rico to Puerto de Mogan. When the boat was pulling into the port I couldn't stop admiring the pretty little buildings, no wonder the locals call it "Little Venice". I couldn't wait to get out and explore the village and even better, it was market day so there was a lot of hustle and bustle. We strolled through the market and had a browse at the stalls but we were more interested in exploring the cute little streets and admiring the flower adorned apartments, as well as the tranquillity of the boats gently swaying on the water. The whole town was so idyllic and beautiful we couldn't help but take a mammoth amount of photos.

Puerto de mogan
puerto de mogan
puerto de mogan

I honestly had fallen in love with how quaint and pretty the village was, the buildings had those adorable windows and they were all painted pretty colours and there were flowers in bloom everywhere you looked.

gran canaria

We found a cute beach front cafe and sat to have a drink and do some people watching for a while, and I fumbled around trying to get the "perfect" photo of my drink of which I did not succeed, but never the less it was a mighty tasty drink and not at all refreshing because in my infinite wisdom I chose a chocca mocha lots of chocolate sauce concoction.

We headed back to the hotel shortly after that and enjoyed an afternoon of gym, sauna and hot tub before dinner, then stuffed our faces with lots of fantastic food. This might have even been the night that I had one too many desserts and made myself feel a tad unwell, but come on the hotel should know not to put out black forest gateaux, tiramisu AND a chocolate fountain all on the same night! How could I possibly not have a bit of everything?

***

Day 6 was spent in the capital city of Las Palmas, where we explored the main shopping area's and sights.

Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria, Michelle Louise Love
Michelle Louise Love, Las Palmas

We learnt a lot about Gran Canaria from our tour guide, he was lovely and very knowlegable. So although we didn't really seem to do a whole lot on this day it was enjoyable. If you are the sort of person who likes to shop then this would have been perfect for you as we visited 2 different shopping malls as well as a high street, and there were a lot of bags and jewellery to drool over.

Gran Canaria

The last twenty minutes or so of this excursion we spent sitting down at the sea front watching the surfers, before getting on the coach and heading back to the hotel.

After dinner every night we would sit in the bar and enjoy a couple of drinks and listen to the live music or watch the entertainment. I will always smile fondly at the memory of Lorenzo the waiter rushing about and his cheeky sense of humour and the way he would dance as he brought your drinks to the table.

Gran Canaria Princess

Our last full day was spent mostly at the beach, where we took out a pedalo and walked along the shore with our feet in the water and visited the sand dunes. My only regret would be doing that in the middle of the day as the sand was scorching hot and my mind couldn't concentrate on how amazing the dunes looked whilst the skin was quite possibly melting off the soles of my feet. I wish we had gone back in the evening and watched the sunset from the dunes as it would have been magical. But I guess we will save that for next time.

Our flight home was early evening on the Monday so we had breakfast, packed up our room and once again wandered down to the beach front. We were just killing time until our flight this day unfortunately and squeezed in some tapas around 3pm before we left as we weren't going to have any dinner on the journey home. I was really sad to leave the island and return home, but will always cherish the amazing memories I made.

The only bittersweet part of the holiday was the fact that my Pandora bracelet went missing from our room, but that will teach me for taking something so sentimental on holiday. Lesson learnt, only ever take junky jewellery.

Farewell Gran Canaria!
